Description
Most Americans know the Utah Mormon church by their young missionaries on bicycles, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and TV commercials promoting family values.
Most Americans do not know that over 100 other church organizations sprang from this movement founded by Joseph Smith. The largest of these is the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (RLDS), who strongly reject the “Mormon” designation and insist they are a Christian denomination. To help reinforce this claim, the RLDS church changed its public name to “Community of Christ” (CofC) in 2001. This raises a number of important questions.
-
HOW IS THE RLDS/CofC CHURCH DIFFERENT FROM UTAH MORMONISM? HOW IS IT THE SAME?
-
WHY IS THE RLDS/CofC CHURCH HEADQUARTERED IN INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI?
-
RLDS/CofC HAVE THREE BOOKS THEY HOLD ABOVE THE BIBLE. WHAT ARE THESE BOOKS? SHOULD CHRISTIANS REGARD THEM AS SCRIPTURE?
-
RLDS/CofC HAVE A COMPLEX STRUCTURE OF PRIESTHOOD MINISTRY. WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT PRIESTHOOD? ABOUT CHRISTIAN MINISTRY?
-
SINCE RLDS/CofC REJECT SOME OF THE MORE EXTREME DOCTRINES OF MORMONISM, CAN THEY BE CONSIDERED A LEGITIMATE CHRISTIAN DENOMINATION?
